Zini, me & life in general

Trains!!!

No it’s not the name of a new movie made by Disney Pixar after cars and planes…This is all about how i share a love-hate relationship with trains…

Yes, I know a lot of you love to travel by trains (including Zini and my hubby) but I somehow get worried and excited with train travels at the same time…Weird, i know but I have my reasons …

The biggest issue is that all my travel partners are so obsessed about reaching the station early, at least before an hour!! Yes an hour!! I kid not!! And then long painful wait of the train starts. I remember my papa plonking us on station in SUMMER vacation!! Summer is the keyword here…

My hubby too shares this obsession of my papa. We both haggle about the starting time and finally he too manages to get us on station at least before 45 minutes. And then Zini goes berserk!! She wants to explore everything on the station and wants to touch every corner!! And after some time she gets tired and wants me to pick her up!! No papa won’t do, mumma has to pick Zini up πŸ™„ !!!

And don’t get me started about the hygiene in and outside trains!! A lot of stations are very dirty and toilets on the train are a nightmare and madam Zini refuses to use diaper which means 2-3 visits to this hell…Enough said…

Sleeping on a train was already a difficult thing for me and since I started travelling with Zini, it has almost become impossible. I just can’t sleep on the same berth as Zini (the berths are too tiny) and Zini won’t sleep without mummy, which essentially means that I stay awake 😦

This doesn’t mean that I completely abhor train journey, I have some happy memories of train travel too. Our great vacations have started with train journeys!! I have fond memories of travelling with my family!! I totally loved eating thepla, puri and sukhdi during those journeys (yeah, my mom too shares my OCD of homemade food)…Though sometimes she relented and let us buy those tempting but totally unhygienic things from station and cutlets from the pantry…

My train travel after my wedding, where both mine and hubby’s family traveled together felt totally like a picnic!! From every compartment we could hear loud laughing people (yeah we are a loud lot) and everybody was munching on something or the other (and yeah, we all love to eat)…

I also remember the 1st train journey that hubby and I took after 2 weeks long wedding festivities to go to Hyderabad… For the first time we were together and it finally sank in that we were married!! It was indeed a very special train journey…After that we continued to make a lot train travels and had adventures with the trains too..

P.S.: If you hear a folklore about a young girl travelling on train and buying and eating chana puri from each station, then believe me, the story is totally true!!

  1. I enjoy travelling in trains instead of flights for long distances.. Flights are more of a matter of convenience.. But in trains, I can relax to read, tinker with the laptop and sleep aaram se (yes).. Plus the food at every other junction.. it is fun

  2. Train is my most preferred mode whenever I am in India and prefer rail gaddi over buses. Trains are my first love and wheneva, I travel outstation, I always end up one hour before my schedule journey. Deccan Queen is ma favorite:)

  3. I too share the love-hate relationships with trains ZM! I loved train journeys until I was all in Bangalore. I had to travel back and forth to Chennai every week in the same train, to see my family. The travel time with traffic to the station would be 1.5-2hrs and I had to be early, not to miss the train. The actual train journey only lasted 6hrs, but my long wait took 4hrs! Nightmarish train journeys. But then, I love train journeys I make with my family! πŸ™‚

    • hmmm…journeys with family are fun…
I can soo understand your point…hope all of you will soon be united and your journeys will be with your family πŸ™‚

  4. I could relate so much to the sharing the berth with Zini thing. Thanks to Arnav my train journeys are very painful as far as sleepinf arrangements are concerned. Otherwise I love travelling in trains and I love gorging on food!!! North side main waise bhi khaane ke options acche rehte hain!

  5. Hey techie – Even I hate train journeys these days after travelling so much in flights.. Train journeys used to be very nice and memorable when I was a kid although we would only travel in the sleeper class. But I saw rats and many other insects in 2AC comapartment and it was a really disappointing sight..I have a lot of nice memories of train journeys as a kid πŸ™‚

  6. I also have a love hate relationship with trains. Shorter train journeys are ok for me but I just can’t take the long ones. And apart from that train stations induce a fear in me too so I feel very chaotic in mind when I am in train.

  7. the only reason i always want to avoid a train journey is the lack of cleanliness and its hellish toilets… even if you put me in the first class, i won’t enjoy a bit. and then San and I sleeping on the same birth is another silly reason for avoiding it. πŸ™‚

  8. My hubby is always eager to reach the station very much ahead of time whenever we are travelling by train.. Which totally irritates me :-0 … But yes, train journeys are a lot of fun especially if you travel in large groups.. I have some school camping memories with it… But yes the hygiene factor – I totally agree Pankti πŸ™‚

  9. Travelling with kid is indeed very difficult. How old is zini.. mine is toilet trained at home, but still I make her wear diaper since i find it easy than going to dirty toliets. But in the last trip, parents too were there, and being old traditioned, they were favouring removal of diapers everywhere.. i so miss sleeping in upper berth of trains which i used to before arrival of N(N for Nayana).. life indeed changes after arrival of kid na..
have to try baking.. have heard of so much.. even i dont like cooking but have to see how baking goes for me…
